Look after my linky while I’m away! #weekendbabystyle

So, last night I posted to say I will be going abroad at 5am on Friday. I did think about hosting the linky as usual by scheduling a post to publish on Friday morning but the problem with that is that I have to manually enter my own post into the linky which confuses things a little as I’ll be thousands of feet in the air! I could have done this once I arrive to my hotel – but sadly I hear the wifi is terrible there.

I won’t be back until the following Saturday at 1am. This also means I’m going to miss the following week too! 😦 Again, I could link up on the Saturday but after arriving home on a plane a few hours before with a 7 month old – let’s face it, that ain’t gon’ happen! I also didn’t think it was very fair to put my own link up this week while away, let you all visit and comment on my blog but then not have enough internet coverage to visit and comment on your own blogs in return.

Soooo…. I am going to leave the linky in the very, very capable hands of my co-host Sarah from Knott Bump & Us. If you don’t follow her on Twitter and Instagram already, please, please do so (you’ll find her social media links on her blog, so click on the link I just included to find those) otherwise you’ll miss out on the linky! We have so many lovely faithful linkers and we’d hate to lose you over the next fortnight just because you didn’t see the cue for linking.

Weekend style linky badgeSarah has just started a new job and has gone back to full time work this week – go Supermum!! This means it’s going to be a lot of work for her to make sure she gets posts ready and share on social media/her blog so would be amazing if you could all get behind her by following her and linking up as usual when she lets you know the linky is live 🙂

Thank you all so much for understanding – of course when I’m home and recovered from the flight/mountains of washing I will be looking back on the two weeks I missed and I’m really looking forward to seeing which lovely outfits you entered and commenting on how great they are! Sarah will also have the lovely job of choosing which her favourite outfits were so if you entered last week, watch out this week for who she picks – the same goes for the following week too.

See you all on the linky in a fortnight when I’ll be back on form!

I’ll try not to get too tanned…..

See ya! 🙂 ❤

We’re off on holibobs!

I thought I’d write a little something to let you know that we might go a bit quiet over the next 10 days… We’re off on holiday! We are flying to Fuerteventura this week with our lovely friends Claire, Tom and their baby Dougie. We all met in our NCT class, however Claire and I ended up in opposite beds when having our babies and then Austin and Dougie ended up being born just 6 hours apart! Austin was born at 7pm and Dougie at 1am meaning they won’t share the same birthday – something they’ll thank us for when they’re older I bet!

Here are the two babies on their first summer pub lunch together!

I’ve made the decision not to blog during our time away or for a few days either side. I spend so much time on my computer during nap times/evenings so I really want to spend some quality time concentrating on family and friends for the week without being glued to the laptop. I may still post on Instagram and on my blog’s Facebook page although I have heard the wifi is shocking where we’re heading so I may even go totally silent!

camas-balinesas-carlotajpgThat is where we’re off to and I can’t wait! Look out on Instagram for photos and there will be lots more when we’re home.

Have a great week everyone!

Thank you so much to everyone that entered last week – we broke our record again – 27 entries! Yay! There were so many fab fashionable outfits  it was so hard to pick one – so we chose two! Rosalie’s tartan outfit from Macy’s was so beautiful and adorable so we had to give her a mention.

Also we had Aria’s and she topped the super cool fashion stakes with her chequed shirt, leggings and moccs!

 Austin’s WBS:

This was actually yesterday’s outfit. I was out with the NCT girls for meals and drinks last night so I’m feeling a touch delicate today! I knew I wouldn’t be up to dressing him up, taking photos and sorting the linky by 9am today and I was right! Today is definitely a day for onesies, sofas and topknots all round. I took all the photos yesterday and I’m glad I made the effort to do so as we got some amazing shots 🙂 Isn’t this the best t-shirt you’ve ever seen?! Perfect for a little bald boy!

The Weaning Diaries | Organix red pepper hearts review

As Valentine’s Day is right around the corner I thought it would be a perfect time to review this cute new snack. Organix have brought out this new finger food – let’s see what Austin made of them….imgresWe gave him a few of these to play with after his lunch – you’d think he would have already been full but nooo! He really seemed to love the taste as he ended up eating 3 of them! They were very easy for him to pick up himself and he was able to keep hold of them without dropping too. Perfect snack for his age.

First job is to assess...

First job is to assess…

These melt in the mouth hearts are in the stage 2 range which is for babies that are feeding themselves. They are great for helping your baby discover new textures, shapes and tastes. Picking them up also encourages developlment of hand-eye co-ordination too. Austin loves red pepper as a snack with houmous so I already knew these would be a hit!

Organix are already one of our favourite baby brands. The no junk promise is the main reason for this – there is no added sugar, salt, or artificial colours or flavours, just honest organic ingredients. Yum!

Very excited to get hold of one!

Finally, the perfect mascara!

Every now and again I think surely there must be a better mascara than my usual one. Is there something I’m missing out on? I see photos on Instagram of people who are not wearing false lashes and I think – I want eyes like that! I will sometimes ask which mascara they are using and then make sure I add it to my shopping list.

I’ve asked lots of friends which mascara they use and every time I try it out I find it just doesn’t suit my lashes. So disappointing. I think I have finally realised that everyone’s lashes are different and not everyone suits the same mascara. I really don’t think it’s as simple as buying the most popular one on the market, or the same one your friend uses. I think you have to find the mascara that works for you. Continue reading

The Weaning Diaries | 7 month old daily menu and portion sizes

It’s always interesting to see how much all of your little one’s eat as every baby is so different! I know some mums really worry about how much to offer or let their baby eat. I tend not to be a worrier with food and know that he won’t starve himself. If some days he doesn’t eat much, I don’t panic as he’ll probably eat more the day after – or maybe he’s just not that hungry! For those that are having any feeding issues or worries here is our 7 month feeding routine if you fancy having a nosey…

At the moment Austin’s day goes a little like this:

Example given for a day when waking at 7.45am

8am: He’ll drink anywhere between 3 and 6oz formula (he’s never been a big drinker)

9am: Porridge – maybe about 3tbsp of powder plus 2 or 3oz formula. This is mixed with 1 tbsp of fruit puree.  I also mix in 5ml multivitamin liquid – this makes sure he gets everything he needs even if he doesn’t drink much milk in a day. A few times a week I’ll also give him some toast with cream cheese so that he gets used to eating finger foods.

imgres-212-1pm (depending when he wakes from his long morning nap) Half to Three quarters of a stage 2 Ella’s Kitchen pouch. He will happily eat any of these flavours. Sausage and mash, fish pie, chicken casserole etc. Sometimes he will eat the whole bowl. Other day he plays up and spits it out but generally he eats very well. Sometimes I’ll give him a little ham sandwich or some of my omelette as well. This is followed by custard, yoghurt, rice pudding or any other milky dessert.

images-13-3.30 pm He’ll drink anywhere between 2 and 5oz depending on how much he ate for lunch

5pm Half to three quarters of a stage 2 Ella’s Kitchen pouch – again any flavour. I’ll usually add cheese to this meal for extra calcium. Followed by fruit puree. We use the Organix fruit pots with pieces in. I want to avoid Austin being fussy with lumps so have always included them wherever possible!

imgres-1

imgres-36-7pm (depending on when he woke from PM nap) Bedtime bottle – usually about 5 or 6oz but the last few night has only taken an oz or two. Not sure what that is about but it hasn’t interrupted his sleep so I’m not too worried. He definitely eats enough solids and because he gets multivitamins I don’t think he’s missing out. Will mention to Health Visitor next time though if he carries it on.

Bed – Austin has never had a DF and unless he’s very ill he’ll always sleep right through until anywhere between 7:30am – 9am.

I think Austin does generally eat quite a lot. His portions seem to be quite big, but then again he doesn’t drink much milk so maybe that’s why. Also he did wean at 4 months old due to bad reflux so he’s had a long time to build up portion sizes.

I haven’t really started with snacks in between yet due to the fact he wakes up quite late in the morning. Waking up late means there is just enough time to space out 3 meals and 3 bottles, but if I tried to add snack in I think it would probably leave him too full for his next meal. Some days are different, like today for example. I was eating brunch and he couldn’t stop staring! I pulled him up into his highchair and gave him a rice cake to eat so that he felt he was part of my meal time.

imgres-4I’m pretty relaxed with food – if we’re out at a restaurant he can eat whatever he likes even if it isn’t the right time. Most of the time we’re eating at home at around the same times, so if we’re not in the house the ‘routine’ vanishes a bit. Fortunately Austin is pretty flexible with food and wouldn’t scream with hunger if he goes an hour later than usual.

He has started to play up a bit lately though! Just the usual baby tricks – blowing raspberries with a mouthful of food, whinging on the savoury food yet eating his entire pudding (Come on mum’s, show of hands for every time your baby has pulled that one?!) The nanny in me is determined not to let him win – we’ll see how that goes….

How is your little one eating and how do their meals/portion sizes differ from Austin’s?

Thanks for reading! 🙂

The Weaning Diaries | Tuna and vegetable quiche recipe

This week we’ve been cooking and today’s choice was quiche. I was at my friend’s house earlier in the week and she was saying how much her baby loves quiche, so decided I’d let Austin have a go. We normally spoon feed and I generally give him just finger food like toast and sandwiches alongside, but thought he’d really love this – and he did!

We decided to make tuna and vegetable quiche and it was honestly one of the quickest and easiest things I’ve ever whipped up. I made enough mixture for two quiches and I froze half of the mixture. Here’s how we did it: Continue reading

Ideas for sensory and messy play at home

This week I decided it was time to introduce Austin to sensory play. He’s been to a sensory class before which was fantastic and I’m sure we’ll sign up for the term soon, but I wanted to wait until Austin was stable enough sitting up or crawling before I did so that he could really get involved.

For now though there’s plenty we can do at home – we’ve made a sensory basket! I’ve had so much fun filling it with all kinds of items. Now Austin has started sitting up he loves to explore and I’ve noticed lately how much more he’s able to actually play with things. It’s lovely to watch!

What I ate Wednesday

Recently I’ve noticed on social media that there are a lot of people entering this linky run by Peas and Crayons. I’ve been back to Weight Watchers for a couple of weeks now and I plan to continue it – see why HERE. Since I’m back on plan and writing a food diary each day I thought I’d join the linky and make dieting a bit more fun! I’ve chosen a diary from a couple of days ago, here it is…

Breakfast : This week I lost 4lb so this was a weigh day ‘treat’ meal. Quorn bacon, Quorn sausages, egg, Weight Watchers beans, mushrooms from the local farm, asparagus and green beans. It was every bit as good as it looks and TOTALLY worth the 11 pro points!
