Austin’s 3 month update

So, I may be 3 months late, but I have finally got round to starting Austin’s monthly updates! I’m doing them partly for myself to keep track of how quickly he changes, partly for you my lovely readers and partly for Austin. When he grows up I love the idea of him being able to look back month on month at himself as a baby and all the little changes he made. I can’t wait to see how much he grows over each update!

Now he is 4 months old he has changed obviously HUGELY since he was born….When he came into the world he was 3 weeks early and weighed a tiny weeny 5lb 12oz. He was in ‘tiny tiny baby’ size clothes and even then the sleeves were rolled up as they were too long! Half of me wishes I could have my miniscule little baby back, but the other half of me is just obsessed with how fast he’s growing and all the new little things he’s doing!

Month 3 brought such amazing changes. From the second he was born he had terrible reflux. He would only take tiny amounts of milk and then proceed to throw almost all of it up. He had his poor mummy and daddy (well, more mummy) worried that he wasn’t keeping anything down and that he’d never ever grow any bigger! The midwives tried to reassure me and in time I learned they were right. But when they’re so new and tiny you just can’t help but worry! Over the next 3 months he did exactly the same. Ate tiny amounts and nearly all of it came back up again, covering himself and me in huge amounts of milky vomit. Lovely! I was changing both of our outfits at least 5 times a day but looking back it was all so worth it when you look at this little face!

As soon as the magical 3 month mark hit (just as everybody told me) it was like he changed almost overnight. The reflux calmed down massively – partly due to his now much more mature digestive system and partly due to his thicker Comfort milk and anti sickness medicine Ranitidine. He just seemed to grow from a tiny baby into a little boy almost inside one day! He went to bed as a sickly helpess little thing into a smiling laughing little munchkin that could finally keep his feeds down! Yay – one happy mummy!

He also started to really giggle. Even now at 4 months old he’s not properly laughing and fully giggling, but more little spurts of giggly noise here and there and it’s just adorable! The big changes I noticed in month 3 were things like:

  • Definitely recognising me, his daddy and family
  • Grabbing for his toys rather than gormlessly staring at them
  • Grinning when you call his name
  • Grasping things properly
  • Holding his head up much better than before, although he’s still not quite got the hang of his heavy head yet!
  • Talking and generally making lots of noises – especially when you talk to him
  • Sucking his thumb purposefully
  • Chewing his hands, bib and anything he can get hold of
  • Teething (Anbesol liquid is our saviour!)
  • He enjoys the pub. (Daddy made me write that bit if you’re reading, darling)

Another wonderful thing that has happened within the last month is that we have been approached by a couple of beautiful clothing lines who have asked for Austin to be their brand rep. He now reps for an American brand called Simple Sawyer and a Polish brand called Titot Fashion. Our job is to showcase their wonderful handmade clothing on the blog and our social media platforms. We are very proud to represent such awesome mummies that make clothing to die for!

I am also very pleased to see that he now fits in big boy pyjamas! One of his best little baby friends Noah got these for him when he was just a few weeks old. He chose them himself (with the help of his mummy and daddy Donna and Mark) and he just looks good enough to eat!

At 3 months old Austin also enjoyed his first ever holiday. We went to Center parcs with Donna, Mark and Noah. We had an amazing time with our very special friends.

If you’d like to read about Austin’s first ever holiday, you can find out all about it in our holiday post. We also appeared on the Center Parcs blog, which you can find the link for within that post.

Here are some more scrummy photos from Austin at 3 months:

One more new thing we’ve been doing in month 3 is meeting lots of lovely new friends. One of my favourite bloggers – Jess and her divine little boy Jasper (Lilypodandsweetpea) kindly invited us to their beautiful house for a playdate last week. They live just 25 minutes from us and we had such a wonderful time together. Jess is now counted as one of my best friends – she is the most kind hearted, genuine person you will ever meet. And Jasper? There are no words! Here is me squishing the little beaut!

So there we have it. Austin’s 3 month update! He is now into month 4 and I cannot wait to see what the next monthly update has in store – stay tuned!

Thanks for reading 🙂
